The straight sober lines of this antique Louis XVI period mantel are characteristic of the style. Sculpted motifs enliven the mantel. The jambs are decorated in the manner of filleted fluted pilasters. Although the jambs are straight, tapered pilasters create a visual illusion of tapered jambs. The heads are adorned with rosettes set in frames. At the center of the entablature is placed a guilloche frieze adorned with flowers in a slightly protruding rectangular pearled frame, which is flanked with rectangular panels.
