This antique mantel is true to the pure lines of the Louis XVI style. Of rectangular design, its straight lines show the strong influence Antiquity had over the arts during this reign. The straight jambs are pilasters with fluting that is filleted at the bottom. The heads are adorned with a rather unusual sunflower motif. The entablature presents a rare design of interwoven ribbons and a slightly protruding shelf gives a final touch to this composition.
