Louis XVI style mantel from the 19th century in Skyros marble from Grece. Very architectural in style, the tapered and fluted columns with their palm leaf capitals evoke Egyptian pharaonic columns. The entablature is adorned with a frame of delicate strings of pearls. Echoing the lines of the entablature and semi detached columns, the shelf rests upon a double cornice. Because of the high quality of sculpture and quantity of work required, mantels with columns have always been rare. The mantel is presented with its iron insert and two tone marble hearth floor.
