Copper and bronze fireplace insert (Reference 9517)
Neo-Renaissance fireplace insert with an elaborate decor. At the center above the hearth opening, a dragon wrestles a fish, in a striking image using the symmetry of their screaming mouths, their tails curling towards the sides, under the spread wings of the dragon. The verticals are covered with grotesque lattice work with putti, flanked by griffins and other figures. A very delicate artistry and imaginative combination of elements. The structure is solid and in very good condition. The base is copper the characters are bronze.
Origin
Late 19th Century.
