This exceptional paneled room from an herbalist shop dates from 1825 and was created in Colmar, Alsace, France. The structure is made of oak with Brazilian rosewood veneer and satinwood molding. The panels curve in to form a half circle. Here, the lower part is full of sets of deep small drawers that contained medicinal herbs. On each of the drawers, the name of the plant is written both in scroll and on a small white enameled plate. Above, fine semidetached columns separate the shelving. On either side of the half circle, is a doorframe closed by green velvet drapes. The paneling continues perpendicularly, with the same composition of drawers and shelving. On the right is a door with a diamond shaped window surrounded by four half circles. The lower wood panel of this door echoes the same design. This is a very rare room and is in excellent condition.
