This large cupboard and its mirror were made in the 19th century by the Maison des Bambous by Perret and Vibert. In its upper part, a mirror animated by an impressive dragon, decorated with cherry branches and on each side two smaller dragons, forming a lamp and supporting a tablet. In the middle part, three drawers engraved and decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay. In its lower part, this piece of furniture opens with three doors decorated with birds, flowers inlaid with mother-of-pearl and on two of them, a carved dragon.
Established in 1879 by Alfred Perret and Ernest Vibert at 30 rue du Quatre-Septembre in Paris, the Maison des Bambous specializes, from 1886, in the realization of Chinese-inspired furniture, drawing from the Far Eastern decorative repertoire , thus adorning furniture with dragons. This furniture is therefore quite representative of this production and the taste then in vogue for the exoticism.
