Beautiful antique terracotta statue featuring an allegory of Sculpture, made in the late 19th century.
A young girl, the sculpting knife on hand, with a pensive air, sits on a fluted column with an ionic capital. On the floor, a bust of an antique woman, probably a reproduction of the Venus de Milo.
The sculpture is signed "J.D." which can designate the sculptor Juliette Delorme who exhibited at the Salons in the years 1880-1890, wife and student of sculptor Victorien Antoine BASTET (1852-1905).
