This fireplace was made in the late 16th century of tuffeau stone. This stone of white or cream color is extracted around the Loire river and was used for the construction of buildings during the Renaissance. We also find it in the Wallony region where it was exploited during centuries to build the city of Maastricht.
Our fireplace is composed of a very large entablature adorned on its center with a cartouche that could receive coat of arms in a Gothic decor and framed by a rose and a fleur-de-lys. It rests on two thick jambs forming a half Doric column.
