Regence Period Stone Fireplace with Modern Sculpted Overmantel
Dimensions
Width: 71 cm
Height: 133 cm
Depth: 24 cm
This light-colored fireplace is characteristic of the Régence period. The gently arched lintel is highlighted by a molded band and rests on curved jambs with projecting panels, typical of the transitional style between Louis XIV classicism and the softer curves of the early 18th century. The mantel shelf slightly overhangs and follows the arch’s contour. The overmantel is a modern addition, sculpted in a simple and geometric style, featuring a molded frame at the top, made from matching stone.
