This lot consists of antique square tiles in Belgian bluestone, a dense limestone quarried in the Hainaut and Namur regions, also known as "petit granit". The stone has a deep blue-grey colour, scattered with small pale inclusions formed by the fossils it contains, which are characteristic of this material.
The surface of the tiles has a patina from use, with shades ranging from light grey to anthracite. The edges are straight and regular, which makes it easy to relay them with tight joints.
Highly resistant to wear and frost, bluestone was widely used in the 19th and 20th centuries for the floors of entrance halls, kitchens, corridors and courtyards. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
The lot includes:
- one pallet of 168 tiles, 3 cm thick, approximately 11.79 m²
- one pallet of approximately 54 tiles, 3.5 and 4 cm thick, approximately 3.79 m²
Tile dimensions:
26.5 x 26.5 cm
Thickness: 3 cm, 3.5 cm and 4 cm
