Rare antique Japanese style fire screen in gilt bronze in imitation of bamboo and engraved glass

19th century, France.

In very good condition.

This rare firescreen is a magnificent example of Japonism in the nineteenth century.
The gilt bronze is here shaped in bamboos, as did Edouard Lièvre for a few exceptional works.
Engraved glass is also a delicate art, with which Lalique has built its reputation. It allows us to protect ourselves from the flames while admiring the show of the flames in the hearth. The diaphanous decoration represents birds fluttering in thin branches.
The combination of gilt bronze and glass is quite exceptional for a firescreen, and brings a great elegance to this accessory, which thus revisits Zen in its way.
