This cast iron fireback was made in the late 19th century.
Shaped as a square, it is adorned with an allegory of Winter detaching on a rococo frame on a background composed of diamonds adorned with flowers. Beautiful acanthus leaves scrolls come to underline this decoration, while small shells come to adorn the superior angles.
Winter is depicted by an old man covered with a drapery warming up near a fire. A fireback with a similar decoration is illustrated in the book of Henri Carpentier "Firebacks".
