Good condition.

This mantelpiece, with its two-colours ornamentation, was carved in marble in the middle of the 19th century. Its cornice is deeply carved and follows straight lines. A frieze of inverted triangles runs just below, forming a link with the lintel. The centre of the lintel is adorned with two putti intertwined under a canopy, representing the arts: one evokes music, while the other holds a book, symbolising literature. In the spandrels, two bronze bas-reliefs depict monkeys playing in tree branches. The jambs are angled. They are separated from the rest of the mantelpiece by a thin twisted line. The top is adorned with a finely carved flower. The remaining part of the jambs are recessed to accommodate high bronze reliefs: on the left, a putto and a goat frolic in a vineyard; on the right, another putto feeds grapes to a goat standing on its two hind legs. The inner line of the mantel is underlined by a moulding carved with a braided motif.

This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor but could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
