In good condition. Small crack on the left side.
This fireback dates back to the 18th century. It represents the God Mars in armor, standing between Cupid, in his form of child holding a torch, and Alectryon, in the form of a rooster.
Alectryon has indeed been transformed into a rooster in order to always announce the morning, because he fell asleep when Mars, the god of war, had asked him to watch while he visited secretly his lover Venus .
