Origin:
19th century.

The creation of this three-pieces garniture composed of a crystal bowl and two vases mounted in gilt bronze is attributed to the Cristallerie de Clichy (1842 – 1895). Indeed, En effet, the thin and elegant shape that evokes a concolvulus’s corolla, is characteristical of the Cristallerie’s production which unfortunatly did not sign its creations but only put on them a label, very often disappeared today. the crystal is here supported by a wonderful gilt bronze mount depicting dolphins in a delicate reed decoration spreading out on each side to create two rolled handle. The carving quality and its delicacy come to underline the richness of his composition, giving a true insight of the luxury French production during the second half of the 19th century. Created in 1844, the Clichy-la-Garenne Crystal glass making factory imposes it self from the beginning of the Second Empire as one of the most important manufactory in the crystal production. Its numerous participations to the Great Exhibitions that rhythm the second half of the 19th century are always successful. lichy does master intense colours such as emerald-green, or ruby red, their quality and purity being exalted by the intentional absence of decoration. A beautiful example of a pair of ornamental vases, out of ruby red crystal and set with gilt bronze, was exhibited on the crystal glass-making factory’s booth at the 1878 World’s Fair of Paris. Nowadays, only one piece of the pair have been kept and can be seen at the Musée d’Orsay. Innovative the Clichy crystal glass making factory knew how to benefit from dertermining factorsas the technological and scientific developmentof the 19th century, before definitively turning off its ovens in 1895.
