This magnificent Napoleon III mantelpiece in red Griotte marble, inspired by the Louis XV style, was executed in the second half of the 19th century. It is unique in that it includes a bronze fire grate within its structure.
The lintel, which follows soft lines forming curves and counter-curves, is adorned with a regularly contoured shell enriched with foliage motifs. The jambs follow a complex brace shape, the ends of which curl into scrolls of varying width.
The mantelpiece is closed at the front by a richly decorated, openwork fire grate that fits perfectly around the edges of the mantel, echoing the rococo shapes of its carved ornamentation. A discreet opening mechanism on the left-hand grate allows fuel to be added to the fireplace.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
