Superb Empire-style fireplace in Rouge Griotte marble, richly decorated with finely chiseled gilded bronze. The center of the frieze features a mascaron representing Bacchus crowned with vine branches. Foliage flanks the mask on either side. Circular medallions depicting female faces adorned with flowers and veils decorate the top of the curved jamb adorned with acanthus leaves. Bronze moldings alternating between stylized ovals and darts decorate the curved jambs as well as the upper section of the lintel. Rouge Griotte marble is characteristic of the Empire style.
