Height 67'' ⅜  171cm
Depth: 1'' ⅝  4cm

Origin:
France, 19th century

This framed rectangular panel is composed of a polychrome glazed ceramic plaque. The historical composition depicts Pierre Terrail, the celebrated military figure of the French Renaissance, traditionally known as the “knight without fear and without reproach.” He is shown in armor within a lively scene populated by figures in period costume, reflecting the historicist taste that flourished during the late 19th century.

Established in Lorraine, the Sarreguemines faience manufactory gained widespread renown throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries for its mastery of fine earthenware and decorative majolica (barbotine). The factory regularly produced ornamental panels and showcase plaques illustrating episodes from history, military exploits, and legendary subjects.

This ceramic panel is representative of that tradition, combining technical virtuosity with a taste for historical narrative characteristic of the period.
