Set of three panels in oil on coarse-grained canvas, executed in imitation of tapestry. The compositions are taken from hunting scenes after René Princeteau (1843-1914). One of the canvases bears an inscription linking the name of Princeteau with the signature G. A. Loron, in the manner of reproductive works.
The first panel shows a hunting party setting out in a wooded landscape, with riders and figures in 16th-century dress, a falconer presenting a bird and a hound in the foreground. The second depicts a falconer mounted on a grey horse, with a second rider carrying a bird in the background. The third shows a boar hunt, the animal cornered by dogs among the reeds as a rider intervenes.
René Princeteau, an animal and equestrian painter trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, was the first teacher of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. His hunting and falconry subjects gave rise to numerous decorative reproductions, to which this set belongs. The first composition is in colour, the other two in a monochrome range.
Each panel is presented under glass, in a moulded wood frame with an inner border of oak leaves and acorns. Late 19th century.
