Good condition.
This Louis XVI style fireplace is exceptional for its dimensions and the richness of its decoration. Carved from pure white Carrara marble, it features an architectural composition with a floral motif at the center of the frieze, set within a Greek key pattern and framed by fluted sections with reed mouldings.
Each jamb is surmounted by a large rosette and a sculpted garland of holly leaves in high relief. The garland frames the upper part of the jamb and falls on either side, suspended from a central ring. The lower sections of the jambs take the form of pilasters, also decorated with fluting along their inner edges.
The sides are panelled, while the particularly thick mantel shelf features several layers of mouldings, emphasizing the monumental proportions of this fireplace, which measures over two metres in width.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
