This sumptuous gilded wood trumeau is richly decorated in the style of the Second Empire. The majestic decoration is largely inspired by the ornamental grammar of the past centuries, with scrolls, neoclassical friezes, acanthus leaves and beaded borders. This abundance of ornaments from various periods is typical of the Napoleon III style. The trumeau is also embellished by the symmetrical presence of putti topped by birds. The pediment is decorated with a spectacular mask of a woman on a scrollwork cartouche on either side of which is a richly sculpted openwork plant decoration.
