A beautiful antique mantel characteristic of the eclecticism that dominated furniture and objet d'art designs in the 19th century. The hooded shape links this mantel to the Neo-Renaissance style, while the decorations are more Neo-Gothic. The hood is adorned with an ogive, its tympanum carved with a series of back to back "E"s - an unidentified monogram. Below, the "Cathedral" decor is caracteristic of the Neo-Gothic style. The large front, composed of a rectangular panel framed with molding and carved with holly branches, is crowned by a very wide cornice. A pair of spiral columns rising to capitals of foliage support the entablature.
