Louis Pierre MALPASS - Pair of french porcelain vases in the Japanese style

In very good condition. Wear of the gold.

Beautiful pair of antique french porcelain vases, painted decor and embossed gold. On the faces of vases, a Japanese woman and man with traditional clothing are represented in two large cartouches. On the back of the vases, lake scenery in gold on blue background with cranes. This pair fo vases is characteristical of the taste for Japonism in the 1870-1880's in Europe.
Perforated Base. The handles in the shape of lions' heads.
The decor is signed 'L. Malpass.'

Pierre Louis Malpass is a parisian porcelain painter, known in the 1870s. His studio was located at 16 rue Pierre Levé in Paris. He also worked in the workshop of Paul Blot (successor of Feuillet) at 3 rue de la Paix in the late 19th century.A porcelain painting after the painting by Jacques-Louis David, 'Le Sacre', realized by Malpass is kept to Chateau de Malmaison and Bois-Préau.
