This is a rectangular enamelled plaque with a scene from "Daphnis and Chloe", an ancient text by the writer Longus. It is signed and dated “Jeanne Soyer 1900”.
The classical bucolic scene reinterpreted by Jeanne Lemerle-Soyer presents a rich work of drawing and color.
The central scene is framed by enamel plates painted with motifs inspired by Art Nouveau.
Jeanne Lemerle, née Soyer , was the daughter of the famous 19th century enameller Théophile Soyer . She exhibited at various art fairs, testifying to her importance in artistic life around 1900.
