Ferdinand BARBEDIENNE - Pair of Neo-Classic bronze lamps after a model by Clodion

Signed by the famous Parisian bronze manufacturer Ferdinand Barbedienne and made circa 1880, these lamps are made out of bronze with brown patina. Executed after the marble model by Clodion which is shown at the Art Institute of Chicago, these Neo-Classic style lamps are carved with low-reliefs depicting the Sacrifice to Venus. Two chimeric monsters form the handles of these lamps.

A pair of ceramic panels with birds in a lacustrine scenery signed "J. ENGEL"

Important pair of ceramic panels with cloisonned enamels made in the second half of the 19th century. Birds, silver pheasants, butterflies and dragonflies spread out in a lake landscape with water lilies, cherry blossoms, peonies... Bright colors, with beautiful shades of pink and green, animate these panels whose decor is directly inspired by extreme-oriental works of art and vogue for Japanism ( Japonisme ). The cloisonned enamel technique on earthenware which consists of separating the different enamels by a line called "cerne", was invented by ceramist Eugène Collinot and patented by him in 1864. Proof of the success of the cloisonned enamels by Collinot, our panels that use this technique are signed on the back by "J. ENGEL, 31 & 33 rue de la Roquette in Paris".

Napoleon III cabinet bottom, Louis XV style

This cabinet bottom was made in the 19th century. It opens with three doors, including a central glass door. The top is made of Fleur de Pêcher marble. Ornaments of chased and gilded bronze. Beautiful cabinetmaking work with wood veneer symmetrically, playing on the game of lines and veins of wood.

Louis XVI style paneled room comprising a Louis XVI period mantel and its trumeau

This Louis XVI style paneled room is composed of two shelves and cupboards with double doors made of wood painted in light green in the 20th century. They frame a Louis XVI period mantel sculpted in Saint-Anne grey marble with a fluted decor on the header and the jambs. The mantel is accompanied by its trumeau also from the same period, made of sculpted wood painted in the same colors as the rest of the room. The decor are risen up with gold painting such as the beautiful Love allegory recognizable thanks to the kissing birds in front of a quiver with its arrows and the torch. A small basket fill with garlands flowers comes to adorn the frame of the small mirror.

Flowers and golden spangles, an exceptional ceramic vase by Emile GALLÉ

Signed with the name Emile Gallé, our vase is a rare piece. It was made in Nancy in 1884. This work, just before the wave of art nouveau, reveals Gallé's precocious talent. At this time, Gallé studied mineralogy and developed his passion for natural sciences. In order to evoke nature, the artist does not hesitate to use complex techniques. The earthenware has inclusions of metallic particles which give it a precious character. The floral decoration is thus illuminated by gold spangles. From red-brown to golden yellow, the color gradient is particularly warm and elegant. The edge of the vase is decorated with plant decoration. Like many of Gallé's creations, this vase is closer to a work of art than a simple decorative object. A source of emotion, it appeals as much to the eye as to the mind. We know of a vase of a larger size, which was presented at the exhibition of the central union of decorative arts in 1884. Designed by Gallé, a preparatory study for a vase from the same period is kept at the Musée d’Orsay.

Napoléon III Lamp in Sarrancolin Marble, modern base

Base: H. 64.5 cm/25.20'' ; L. 38 cm/14.96'' ; P. 38 cm/14.96'' This Napoleon III lamp in Sarrancolin marble was executed in the second half of the 19th century. The lamp sits atop a sumptuous vase in Sarrancolin pink marble veined with white. It rests on small balls; its circumference is encircled by three bands of gilt bronze and adorned, at the upper part, with four finely detailed gilt bronze lion heads with a fierce air. Two handles transition to the neck of the vase. It supports a lamp: each light source is concealed by a palm leaf; at the end of each leaf, a delicately carved pendant. This antique gas lamp still has its ignition system, although it has been electrified subsequently. The whole is supported by a (contemporary) base in Sarrancolin marble, echoing the shape and ornamentation of the lamp.
