This Louis XIV style fireback was made at the end of the 19th century. Its decoration features the coat of arms of France in the center surrounded by the necklace of the Order of Saint Michael. Two eagles support the medallion, surrounded by military attributes such as flags. Above it is placed the crown of the coronation of the kings of France. The motto "Alone against all" overhangs the whole. This was the motto adopted by Louis XIV during the European coalition against him between the 1670s and 1700s, particularly during the Dutch War and the Augsburg League.
