This Louis XVI-style fireplace is made of Carrara marble. This white marble, sometimes with gray veins, is quarried in Italy's Apuan Alps. Its qualities enable the sculptor to work in great detail, as can be seen in the friezes on the fireplace.
This fireplace is characterized by its friezes of holly leaves with fruit, a motif borrowed from nature under Louis XVI. Acanthus leaf squares are inserted between the holly friezes. In these frames, the acanthus leaves form a flower motif with a central bud in relief. The floral motif in the center of the band, set in a rectangular frame, is larger than the two others at the top of the jambs. The shapes of this fireplace are simple and the lines are straight, characteristic of the Louis XVI style.
This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert but with its marble floor, which is broken but will be restored in our workshop.
