This antique fireplace was made out of white Carrara marble in the early 20th century. The sinuous winding lines that emphasize the jambs, accompanied by carved medallions, are typical of Regence style fireplaces. However, the marked sinuosity of the lines seems to announce the curves of Art Nouveau.
The foliated medallion adorning the center of the frieze is more characteristic of the Louis XVI style.
This fireplace is therefore a fine example of the syncretism of the historical styles observed in the decorative arts in the late nineteenth century or early twentieth century.
This fireplace is sold with its original three squares marble floor but without any fireplace insert.
