This Louis XIV style mantel was realized in the second half of the 19th century in Red of the North marble. It has a continuous molding, called a "bolection", characteristic of this style. The perfectly rectangular shape of the frame is derived from the shapes in vogue under Louis XIII and then Louis XIV. The mantel is crowned by an acroterion derived from ancient architectural vocabulary, panelled and adorned in its centre with a circular medallion.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert ADAPTED to this fireplace and with its marble floor which is broken but will be restored in our workshop.
