Large Louis XV style mantel carved in Carrara marble in the second half of the 19th century. The decoration is characteristic of the Louis XV style, especially the play of curves and counter curves. This is particularly true on the panelled entablature, the central ornament on a scrollwork background ending in a shell, is framed by plant elements including falling acanthus leaves. This rich decoration can be found on the upper part of the curved console jambs. The hearth opening is underlined by a molding ending in a scroll of foliage. The lower part of the jambs is enhanced by large upright acanthus leaves carved in relief.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
