Dimensions
Height 27'' ⅛ 69cm
diameter: 21'' ¼ 54cm
Origin:
Germany, circa 1870–1900
Circular gilt bronze display guéridon resting on a fluted stem adorned with acanthus leaves and ending in a scrolling tripod base. The top features a large painted porcelain plaque representing The Dismissal of Hagar, inspired by a 1701 painting by Adrian van der Werff (1659–1722), Dutch history painter at the court of the Elector Palatine.
The biblical scene depicts Abraham expelling Hagar and their son Ishmael under Sarah’s influence. The fine execution, expressive faces, and subtle color palette are typical of German porcelain work from the late 19th century.
The reverse bears the handwritten title Verstoßung der Hagar and a blue underglaze stamp, likely from a Dresden or Berlin private manufactory active circa 1870–1900.
