This remarkable fireplace was made of very beautiful Portor marble in the second half of the 19th century.
Its plump decoration is caracteristic of the Napoleon III style that takes and mixes the past styles. The shape of the entablature is indeed inspired by the one of the Regence style fireplace, where we usually find on the center a stylized shell, it is replaced here by a motif with scrolls, underlined by an oblong moulding. The entablature lays on thick jambs receiving on their upper part beautiful moulded scrolls surmounting a fluted decoration.
The original cast iron insert is still lightened up with its hooks top receive the fireplace accessories.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
