Depth: 13'' ¾  35cm

Origin:
Circa 1870. Christopher Dresser's stamp at the back.

Status:
In good condition. Patina of the time.

This beautiful cast iron hall stand was made around 1870 by the famous British artist Christopher Dresser (1834-1904). It is covered with a beautiful patina and is in very good condition.
Dresser's signature is stamped on the back: a diamond-shaped pattern topped with a circle, bearing the references of the item.

Dresser enjoyed the freedom of shapes that Eclecticism offered him, particularly in his production of metal objects. His creations were characterized by his desire to simplify designs and make them more symmetrical in order to enhance their functionality.

This cast iron hall stand is composed of two parts, separated by a shelf. The upper part was directly inspired by his decorative research in Principles of Decorative Design (1873) and Studies in Design (1875). Dresser was a botanist and created ornaments that were a geometric stylization of natural elements. The lower part is decorated with an aquatic ornamental vocabulary like shells and sea monsters.
