This very beautiful clock adorned with a vase is a remarkable French work from the second half of the 19th century.
It presents an eclectic decoration, typical of the taste under the Second Empire of Napoleon III. Indeed, it is composed of a white statuary marble base moulded and adorned with gilt bronze elements such as mascarons on each side taking the traits of feminine figures with crowns. The base also bears on the main side and the back, a marble dial indicating the hours in a very beautiful surrounding of palms connected to the mascarons by flowered scrolls. A splendid Ancient inspired vase in patinated bronze comes to crown the clock. Showing also a remarkable carving, it gives a very rich decor in slight relief, not letting any space for the emptiness, composed on the belly with a bacchanalia and on the lid and the foot a succession of friezes inpired by Antiquity.
