Manufacture de Sèvres et Paul LANGLOIS, Important vase in opaline glass with a mountains landscape decoration, end of the 19th century

This important vase in opaline was made by the painter Paul Langlois in Sèvres as indicates the signature on the decor. Our vase is also dated of February 17th, but the year is not really lisible. Nevertheless, we know that the artist started his career in the 1870's until the beginning of the 20th century.
Paul Langlois (1858-1906) was an etcher and porcelain painter, he especially work as a landscape painter in the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1871, 1891, 1892 and 1897 but also in Rouen. His father, Polyclès Langlois was also a painter in the Manufacture de Sèvres between 1846 and 1872. Student of Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889), he participates in the Salon between 1876 and 1906 where he presents his painted works.
Our vase with a long neck presents a mountains landscape decor in pastel shades, animated with a lonely tree on its main face growing in the mountain range and standing in front of a resinous trees forest. The other face is adorned with the continuity of this same landscape, we can see a waterfall that a sat man is contemplating. The vase lays on a pedestal depicting a frieze of Neo-classic motifs painted in gold on the read background.
