Late 19th-century mantel clock featuring an Orientalist design, crafted in metal with extensive polychrome cloisonné enamel decoration. The architectural case is flanked on either side by finely sculpted dragons. The dial is composed of a cloisonné enamel center, surrounded by an enameled chapter ring with black Roman numerals. The clock is powered by a key-wound movement, likely with an anchor escapement, which requires servicing.
Ch. Boye, a Parisian clockmaker active from 1850, was noted for his high-precision movements. His clocks often featured elaborate Orientalist or Japoniste-style cases produced by leading decorative art firms. Boye's movements frequently appear in cases made in collaboration between the Barbedienne foundry and the ornamental sculptor Louis-Constant Sevin (1821–1888), who specialized in introducing cloisonné enamel to Western bronze work in the late 19th century.
