The first carved bronze locks, gold-plated by hand with mercury, appeared in the 17th century. They were made by prestigious artists such as CAFFIERI, DELAFOSSE, GOUTHIERE and MESSONIER to decorate the doors of the rich apartments of the Palace of Versailles; these artists produced authentic masterpieces, some of which are now part of the BRICARD collection. Created in 1782 at the time of Louis XVI, the Locksmith King, BRICARD now has over 30,000 antique models in its archives and to the present day can, on order from its customers, cast, carve, gold-plate and assemble locks, hasps, espagnolettes, keys, buttons, levers, decorative plates and any other rare pieces preciously preserved.
