Large garden vase carved from solid Soignies stone, a blue Belgian limestone prized for its hardness and resistance to weathering, of ovoid form with a flared cylindrical neck, drawing on the neoclassical ornamental vocabulary of the Louis XVI style. The body is encircled by a wide sculpted relief frieze of linked ovolo and dart ornament, a motif characteristic of the antique repertoire as reinterpreted under Louis XVI. The lower section of the body is treated with a row of gadroons. The neck is underlined by a bead moulding. The two flat scroll handles with terminal volutes follow the tradition of antique vases. The whole rests on a moulded pedestal foot and a stepped square base. The stone carries an aged patina together with a few chips, evidence of prolonged outdoor use. Traces of a protective coating are visible on the surface
