The vase by Emile GALLÉ, an ode to the nature of Pharaonic Egypt

Width: 10'' ¼  26cm
Height: 4''   10cm
Depth: 5'' ⅞  15cm

19th century, French

Good condition

This vase signed by Emile Gallé, between 1879 and 1890, is a masterpiece of Belle Epoque decorative arts.

The exceptional piece was made in Nancy, home of Emile Gallé. This artist is one of the greatest master glassmakers and ceramists of Art Nouveau. The iconography and decor are an ode to ancient Egypt, a source of inspiration for Emile Gallé, fascinated by this culture.

Our piece is inspired by traditional Japanese ceramic techniques, using the principle of false dripping. The complementary colors, brown and blue, create chromatic harmony. Let us admire the originality of the decoration representing papyri. A small beetle frolics in flight, uniting animal and plant themes.

A comparable piece, presenting another Japanese-themed decor, went on sale at Tajan, in Paris, on February 26, 2013. Another is kept at the Ecole de Nancy museum.
