Style Louis XVI / Ref.12546

Peach blossom marble and gilt bronze clock surmounted by a statuary white marble sculpture representing Phryne in front of his judges, signed "Campagne", circa 1900

Width: 11'' ¾  30cm
Height: 30'' ¾  78cm
Depth: 11''   28cm

This clock presents a reduced reproduction in statuary white marble of "Phryne before its judges" of Pierre Campagne placed on a base in peach flower marble and gilded bronze. The painted enamel dial, underlined by a torus of laurel leaves is presented on a peach flower marble base set on four gilded bronze feet. It is embellished with gilt bronze ornaments reproducing rosettes in the corners, acanthus leaf scrolls and friezes. The clock is surmounted by the sculpture reproducing the work of Pierre Campagne (1851 - 1914) "Phryne before his judges", exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1893 and 1894. Having known a certain success, the sculpture has been the subject of many reeditions in bronze and marble.
