This beautiful fireplace was made out of statuary marble in Italy during the 18th century. By its simple and geometric forms, this fireplace is close enough to the Louis XVI style. It is decorated with a very refined floral decor which evokes the Italian « grotesques », so called in reference to paintings from Nero’s Domus Aurea that was buried when discovered at the end of the 15th century. The frieze is decorated with foliated and flowered rinceaux shaping scrolls. It has, on its center, a mask which is characteristic of this ornemental vocabulary. The jambs are adorned with antique vases garnished with flower bouquets supporting vegetal motives forming arabesques which end with cones full of flowers.
This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor but could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
