A spherical blown-glass vase evoking a partially open shell; the upper rim rises to a pointed lip, while the opposite edge—featuring gadrooning—forms a scalloped border. The glass displays a marbled ground blending red, turquoise, green, and black tones, enlivened by speckling and a network of crackle effects created by inclusions within the glass body. This approach to color reflects the experimental work of François-Eugène Rousseau and his successor Ernest Léveillé—key figures in the French *Japonisme* glass movement, notably promoted by the firm L'Escalier de Cristal. The body of the vase is encircled by a gilt-bronze mount depicting a naturalistic iris; the blossoming flower and long, ribbon-like leaves embrace the vessel, following its curvature. The piece rests on an openwork circular gilt-bronze base decorated with pierced foliate scrolls, from which finely chased leaves emerge.
