Louis XVI style chimney in Marquina marble with rounded corners

This Louis XVI style mantelpiece was carved in Marquina marble in the 19th century. The lintel has a circular molding at the centre, framed by rectangular moldings with rounded sides near the medallion. The dice are adorned with square mouldings; they are rounded, as is the jamb, the side of which is fluted. The upper corners of the hearth are also rounded.
The Marquina Black marble used here takes its name from the town of Marquina, where the quarry from which it is extracted is located. The marble used for this mantel has beautiful veins of white calcite, adding to the softness of the curves to enhance the sobriety of the ornamentation.
This fireplace is sold with a modern fireplace insert and with its marble floor, which is broken but will be restored in our workshop.
