Théodore DECK, the large blue vase inspired by the arts of the Far EastSigned and bearing the ceramist's stamp, this large turquoise vase is a creation by Théodore Deck.
This blue, known as “Deck blue”, has become the aesthetic signature of this renowned ceramist.
Cataloged as a planter, this large vase is made of enameled earthenware.
For his original and innovative pieces, Deck won a silver medal at the 1867 Universal Exhibition.
The decor testifies to his fascination with the arts of the Far East. Inspired by Japanese vases from the end of the 19th century, it represents dragons, fantastic creatures from the Asian imagination.
A piece with comparable decoration, and the same dazzling blue, is kept at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
